In an effort to divert short term into long term rentals, the Province is implementing a ‘principal residence’ requirement. This regulation will limit short term rentals to a property where the owner lives for the majority of the year, and applies to communities with more than 10,000 residents.
(more…)Last month, 244 single-family homes sold in the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board (VIREB) area, the same number as last October and down eight per cent from September 2023 (266). Sales of condos came in at 60 units, increasing by 43 per cent from 2023. In the row/townhouse category, 58 units sold, up by 14 per cent from 2023.
(more…)This week’s issue includes year-to-date Building Permit statistics for 2023. Comparing the year-to-date 2022 and 2023 building permits for the Comox Valley and Campbell River, total construction values increased from $286,847,887 to $341,249,180. The number of permits issued, however, shows a 2% decrease from 676 in 2022 to 664 in 2023. As a comparison, the same period in 2021 had 886 permits with a total value of $337,265,202.
(more…)The BC Construction Association has released their Fall 2023 Industry Stat Pack. While the demand for construction remains high, the estimated value of proposed major projects has dipped to $174B in comparison to $220B last year, signalling possible future decreases.
(more…)The BC government has announced that the Ministry continues to review changes to the 2018 Building Codes. The changes will include updates from the 2020 National Model Codes with adjustments made to address specific needs for BC.
