The Campbell River School District has received funding for Roofing, HVAC, and Energy Efficiency upgrades at Quadra Elementary, Sayward Elementary/Junior Secondary, Southgate Middle, Cortes Island school, and Ripple Rock Elementary. School Funding: $10 million for Roofing, HVAC, and other upgrades at 21 schools.  

The BC Provincial government is providing funding to help school districts in several Vancouver Island communities move forward with reducing their carbon footprints and improving classroom ventilation. Comox Valley School District will be receiving $1.489 million in provincial funding for electrical upgrades, HVAC upgrades, and interior upgrades at various schools. Powell River’s school district will see $2 million used on HVAC and energy upgrades. The Campbell River School District will be receiving $2.347 million for HVAC upgrades, roofing upgrades and energy upgrades. Vancouver Island West School District will receive $675,000 for interior construction upgrades, electrical upgrades, and HVAC upgrades. School District #85 Vancouver Island North will be receiving $1.9 million from the Provincial government for roofing upgrades and HVAC upgrades.

Comox Valley: Search and Rescue team is looking for property to build a new operations centre.

Comox Valley Search and Rescue is looking for a couple of acres to support the building of a new and permanent home for future CVSAR operations. Rent in their current location on Moray Avenue will reach $80,000 this year and they are the only Island Search and Rescue team that pays rent for its base of operations. The Comox Valley Regional District approved a staff recommendation to contribute $100,000 a year for the next five years towards a land purchase and/or facility construction, and to help CVSAR develop a business plan. The facility project will cost a total of $1.25 million, with $500,000 moved toward the building project, according to the rescue team. CVSAR’s vision is to build a disaster steel structure for training and housing equipment, noting $500,000 in GICs are already allocated to the building project.

Campbell River: Approvals moving forward for 25 unit townhome and ocean front strata lot project..

Council has approved a Major Development Permit Application with Variances for three townhouse apartments with 12 residential units, including reducing front and rear yard setbacks and increasing the percentage of small car parking stalls. The lot is part of 3 separate titles with 1406 and 1520 Perkins Road for a total of over 3 acres, purchased in March 2021. The complete project proposes three phases, including Phase 1 with the proposed 12 townhomes built in a 6 plex, 4 plex and tri-plex, Phase 2 with an additional 7 townhomes, and Phase 3 with 6 oceanfront homes on strata lots.
