Port Alberni: Construction is underway for a five-storey 102-unit apartment building.

A $24 million building permit has been issued for a new five-storey 102-unit apartment building in Port Alberni. The housing complex is intended only for seniors and persons with disabilities. The Vancouver Resource Society (VRS) Communities Society purchased the 2.5 acre property located at Anderson Avenue and North Park Drive to develop a non-profit housing complex. A development permit was approved in 2021. The complex will also include a clubhouse with amenities, such as a dining room, lounge, commercial kitchen, bistro, e-learning centre, fitness room, games room and community gardens. The building permit was issued to Island West Coast Developments.

Courtenay: Official Community Plan public hearing on June 20.

A public hearing for the City of Courtenay’s new Official Community Plan has been scheduled for June 20 at 4:00 pm. The public hearing will be for all four Bylaw proposals, including several changes to the Land Use Plan, permitting secondary suites in more zones, set requirements for 2 bike parking spots per unit in new multi-residential dwellings including differentiating between parking for electric bikes, lowering the vehicular parking requirements for new multi-residential dwellings from 1.5 to 1.2 per unit, and more. The Land use plan includes (not limited to) reduced density near Vanier High School and Lake Trail School, limiting development in the Ryan Road and Anderton Road area (south east of Crown Isle) until further consultation can occur, and confirming that land around the Ridge in south Courtenay is either Light Industrial or for growth to be considered in future OCP’s. Campbell River:  Jubilee Heights 43 residential lots coming soon.

The 43 residential lots are expected to be released later this year. Builders interested in Phase 5 lots are advised to contact Ross McKeever at Couverdon Real Estate. Twenty seven of the 32 lots in Phase 4 were sold to builders before the remaining 5 lots were listed in February 2022. Those remaining lots were priced from $339,900 to $349,900. Homes are now under construction in Phase 4 with permits issued last month. Four 3 bed, 2 bath ranchers are currently for sale in previous phases ranging in price from $949,000 to $989,900.
