Your Weekly Construction Briefing

Effective today, BC’s construction employers can begin to access up to $40,000 through the BC Construction Association to offset the costs of onboarding and training first-year apprentices in 39 Red Seal trades.

Funding through the BC Construction Association Apprenticeship Service is now available.

Qualifying employers with under 500 employees can now apply to receive $5,000 for hiring new or existing first year apprentices. An additional $5,000 is available for hiring apprentices that contribute to workforce diversity. There is no requirement as to how the employer must spend the dollars they receive. Employers can receive payments for up to two first-year apprenticeship positions per year during the two years of the drive, for a maximum of $40,000 per employer

The BCCA Apprenticeship Services campaign is a province-wide initiative in response to the unprecedented demand in BC’s construction industry as part of the post-COVID economic recovery. There is no-cost to small and medium-sized construction employers, and additional supports are available. The goal is to remove financial barriers to hiring and training first-year apprentices in construction-related Red Seal Trades.

This opportunity is funded by the government of Canada’s Apprenticeship Service, which has provided $21M in funding to the BC Construction Association to operate as an intermediary with employers.

Employers can find more information and fill out an application online at https://bccassn.com/apprenticeship-services.
