Decline in BC Construction in Around Town

Last week, BC Stats released their Building Permits Highlights report for the first half of 2023.

This graph shows by percentage year-to-date changes in BC building permits.

The value of building permits in B.C. dropped by 12.9 per cent compared to January to July 2022. While there were increases in value for commercial projects (+6.6%), the value for industrial (-10.7%), residential (-15.4%) and institutional & governmental (-20.4%) projects decreased.

For residential, single dwelling units had the largest decrease (-33.6%), followed by apartment (-7.0%), and row (-2.8%) units.
