Berwick By The Sea Expected to Break Ground This Spring in Campbell River

Berwick by the SeaA new retirement home is expected to break ground this spring in Campbell River, in the empty lot next to Banners restaurant on the corner of 16th Avenue and Roberts’ Reach. The 133-unit, state-of-the-art facility to be known as Berwick by the Sea will be built on two downtown lots.

Jessica Stigant, community relations manager for Berwick Retirement Communities, said the company plans to break ground on the facility this April, with an opening date sometime in the fall of 2014. In addition to studio and one-and-two-bedroom units, Berwick by the Sea will include a games room, an exercise room, a small theatre, two lawn bowling greens, a bistro and a rooftop garden and greenhouse. The retirement home will also feature ground level gardens and landscaping, with a walking path circling the building.

Stigant said one of the building’s greatest features will be its location.

“We’ll have an ocean view,” Stigant said. “The dining room will have beautiful ocean views and because not all of the residents will have a room with an ocean view the amenity spaces will have ocean views so all the residents can enjoy the spot.”

Campbell River’s facility will be Berwick’s sixth, joining facilities in Kamloops, Comox, Nanaimo, and two in Victoria.
