The Vancouver Island Real Estate Board as released their 2019 Buyers Profile with 1378 survey respondents.

The Vancouver Island Real Estate Board has released its 2019 profile of residential property buyers on Vancouver Island.

Campbell River: 48% of buyers where locals; 27% from elsewhere on Vancouver Island (VI); 19%  first time home buyers; and 54% retired. 

Comox Valley: 36% were locals;  55% new to the area with 24% from elsewhere on VI, 18% Vancouver, 15% other BC, 11% each for Alberta and Ontario, and 2% out of country; and 53% retired.

Port Alberni/West Coast: 34% were locals; 55% new to the area with 43% from elsewhere on VI, 13% other BC, 9% each Vancouver and Victoria; and 54% were retired.

North Island: 10 buyers responded with all being new to the area, 50% from elsewhere on VI, and seven purchasing their retirement home. 

Powell River: The PR-SC Real Estate Board statistics from January to July 2019 showed in an equal 50%-50% split of local and out-of-town buyers with 13% being first home owners. Of the out-of-town buyers, 50% where from the Lower Mainland, 12.5% from each VI and Alberta, and 4% from outside Canada.
