BC Hydro has awarded the for Long Beach and/or Great Central Substations to F&M Installations. This $52-million construction project is now underway at BC Hydro’s Great Central Lake substation. The project which includes the replacement of the Long Beach substation, is estimated to create 50 man-years of employment.

A rezoning application and a development permit application have been submitted to the Town of Comox for the proposed new plan for the Lorne Hotel which will be designed as a five storey multi-use building. These applications may be presented to council for consideration of 1st and 2nd readings in September.

The re-development of Brown’s Bay Resort (north of Campbell River) as a new community and recreation destination has received final approval for its rezoning application. A phased residential/commercial development is proposed to include additional services and amenities. The long term plan for this project will see up to 106 residential strata lots which will be built in four phases. Construction on Phase 1 is expected to begin soon and will include 33 lots.
