Immigration Express Entry for Tradepersons in Around Town

Your Weekly Construction Briefing

Canada’s Express Entry system has now been streamlined for international non-resident individuals with expertise in construction trades.

For the first time, the Government of Canada has created express entry for immigrants with trades expertise.

The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the first trades round for category-based selection opened early August.  The focus on candidates with trades expertise—including carpentry, plumbing, and welding—is designed to help Canada’s construction sector attract skilled talent.

The categories were determined following extensive consultations with provincial and territorial partners, stakeholders and the public, as well as a review of labour market needs. A complete list of eligible hobs for new categories is available on the Government of Canada website.

Category-based selection rounds will continue throughout the year, alongside general invitation rounds, with more details announced in the coming weeks.
