Your Weekly Construction Briefing

FortisBC is designing a new program for 2024 which will address the revised Demand-Side Management Regulation and the building code changes.

FortisBC New Home program is offering rebates up to $10,000 on high-efficiency homes built to Energy Step Code 2.

The New Home Program provides builders two rebate options when building high-performance homes using a Fortis BC energy source. Homes built to BC Energy Step Code 2 or higher using gas space and water heating (or electricity space and water heating in FortisBC’s electricity service area) can qualify for rebates up to $10,000, program qualified energy advisory support rebates, and more.

In addition, homes built to Step Code 3, 4 or 5 can receive up to $7,000 to cover consulting fees of Integrated Design Process (IDP) consultants, building science consultants and/or mechanical design specialists on individual homes. Multi-family projects can receive up to $50,000.

Homes built to minimum code or BC Energy Step Code 1 are eligible for a variety of rebates including high-efficiency water heaters. To ensure rebate eligibility for the rebates available under the 2023 New Home Program, builders must:

  • Pre-register by December 31, 2023.
  • Have the building permit issued prior to December 31, 2023.

Complete the project by December 31, 2025 and apply for rebates within six months of project completion. For builders pursuing the Step Code pathway rebates, an energy advisor can apply on your behalf.
