Comox: The building permit is under review for Phase 1 of a 700+ unit project.
A building permit application has been submitted for Phase 1 of the development, which includes three four-storey residential buildings and a standalone community centre. The 3,275 sq. ft. community centre will feature an on-site office, fitness gym, games room, lounge, full kitchen, and an outdoor barbecue area. Two of the residential buildings will each contain 72 units, while the third will include 55 units, for a total of 199 rental apartments. These will offer a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom layouts. Planning staff are currently reviewing the site design and servicing agreements in conjunction with the building plans. The applicant anticipates that the servicing agreement will be approved and finalized by August or September and hopes that construction will begin soon after.
Powell River: Development permits approved for 30-unit building.
Council has approved a Development Permit and Development Variance Permit for a proposed three-storey, multi-unit residential development that will provide 30 units of affordable Indigenous family housing. The applicant is Tla’amin Nation, which has secured project funding through the provincial Indigenous Housing Fund (IHF). The Nation sought a reduction in parking requirements from 51 to 36. Of the 30-units proposed, 18 (60%) will have two bedrooms, with the remaining 12 (40%) having three bedrooms. Two of the two-bedroom units are proposed to be accessible. Units will range in size from 70m2 (763sqft) to 92m2 (995sqft). The building is expected to be 10.4m in height, and to have a green roof system above the expected amenity room. Staff noted that not all development permit guidelines will be met with this project, but that project is appropriate given the applicant and the general goal of reconciliation. Issuance of the permits will be subject to receipt of a landscape security deposit.
Campbell River: Tender for the construction phase of the RCMP Parking Lot Expansion.
The City invites tenders for the construction phase of the RCMP Parking Lot Expansion and Upgrade Project. In 2023, the City awarded the design, tendering support, and construction administration Highland Engineering Services Ltd. The construction tender includes grubbing, stripping, earthworks, utilities, electrical utilities, paving, security fencing, and associated electrical upgrades within the building for the construction of a parking lot expansion, upgraded perimeter fencing with automatic gates, and a new temporary site access to the south-west corner of the site. A mandatory site meeting will be held on Thursday June 19, 2025 at 2:30pm. This tender closes July 3.Â
