Tofino: proposed 16-unit townhome project for sale is for sale
This 1.21 acre property is still for sale with a price drop from $2.45 million to $1.799 million. The project consists of two separate lots, poised for rezoning to accommodate higher density development, as supported by the City’s Official Community Plan. Offering ocean and mountain views from the summit, Tofino Highlands is a proposed medium density multi-family residential development in the village land use area. The proposed development has previously been given second reading by the City of Tofino for development of a 16-unit townhome complex. Extensive preparatory work has been completed, with all necessary comprehensive reports available upon request. The property has been partially cleared, laying the groundwork for the construction and servicing of a new multifamily development.
Cumberland: approvals moving forward for a 34 unit affordable housing project
Council gave first and second readings to an Official Community Plan Amendment and rezoning application for an affordable rental apartment building on Second Street. If approved, the amended bylaws will permit increasing the proposed building height to fourth storeys, from 22 to 34 units, and reduce parking from 22 to 8 spaces. In November 2024, the Village partnered with M’akola Housing Society to submit a proposal for anticipated funding calls from BC Housing, and to then lead the development, construction and operations of the project. The project changes are expected to strengthen the application to BC Housing to fund construction. Third reading is expected to be issued in the next month or two.
Campbell River: proposed 30 unit apartment for hospital staff and families
The City is proposing a Zoning Bylaw Amendment to introduce a site-specific text amendment to the Public Areas One (PA-1) Zone, allowing the use of ‘apartment’ at 375 2nd Avenue. The proposed site-specific text amendment would allow a new development that will provide residential accommodation to doctors and nurses, and to families that need lodging while staying with a family member who is in hospital. The new building will be called Just Like Home Lodge and is proposed to include 10 independent rooms with a communal living space, shared kitchen, day room facilities and laundry facilities, and 20 fully self-contained Workforce Housing units, offering a mix of, bachelor, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom options, each equipped with in-house laundry, with some featuring private balconies. The Strathcona Regional District and Broadstreet Properties Ltd./Seymour Pacific Homes, are finalizing the project design with a grand opening celebration in the summer of 2026. In July 2023, the Province also announced a new seniors long-term care facility near the hospital with 153 long-term care beds and stand-alone daycare facility for 37 children. In 2024, Island Health issued four requests for proposals for the project, including Construction Manager, Geotechnical Consultant, Quantity Surveyor and Landscape Architect.
