Cumberland: school expansion trade packages expected this spring
School District No. 71 has awarded the expansion contract for the Cumberland Community Elementary School to Heatherbrae Builders, with a trade package expected to be issued in the spring. The province allocated a $31 million budget for this project last year. The expansion includes a two storey 16 Classroom Addition (approx 1919 m2) to replace the Annex Wing (Block 3), and will be completed in two phases, allowing the elementary school to remain fully operational throughout construction. Phase 1 is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025 with the demolition of Block 3. Phase 2 will commence in September 2025 with the construction of the new addition, which is expected to be completed in 2027. The new facility is set to be fully operational by the start of the 2027 school year. The design features a site-built steel frame structural system, supported by concrete foundation walls and a slab-on-grade foundation.
Comox: request for design-build teams for $253.4 million Aircraft Maintenance Hangar
Defence Construction Canada has issued a request for proposal for design-build teams for a new Aircraft Maintenance Hangar. The Rough Order Magnitude Construction Cost Estimate for the project is $253.4 Million. The Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft Program includes purchasing long-range patrol aircraft to replace the existing fleet of CP-140 Aurora aircraft and new infrastructure and renovations to existing infrastructure to support the new aircraft. The new aircraft are to be based at Canadian Forces Base 14 Wing Greenwood, NS, and CFB 19 Wing Comox, BC. The 3-bay maintenance hangar will tentatively include three first-line maintenance bays, workshops, storage, and administrative office space, and Design and Construct a new Tactical Operations Centre. Advance notice of this request was issued in December 2024. The opportunity closes on April 17; see the tenders section for more details.
Comox Valley: District seeking sani-dump sites
After an extensive review of potential sani-dump sites within existing publicly owned land and road right of ways, the CVRD is exploring opportunities to address the shortage of sani-dump facilities in the Comox Valley in partnership with the private sector. The District has issued an Expression of Interest to determine market interest to meet immediate demand for sani-dump services. Respondents should be able to demonstrate the ability to provide a suitable location, design, and plan to construct, maintain and operate the facility, as well as adequate space to accommodate queuing and mitigate traffic impacts; and have access to sewer and water utilities. Some concepts for consideration of the use of the land in the potential agreement terms may include a Subsidized Private Operation, Standard Lease, Build to Suit Lease, or Land Lease with Option to Purchase. The opportunity closes March 27; see the tender section for more details.
