Port Alberni: proposed 76-room hotel
Three local First Nations — Tseshaht, Hupacasath and Huu-ay-aht — have partnered to build a Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Port Alberni. The hotel will be located at the city’s entrance, near Walmart on Johnston Road. As proposed, the hotel will be a four-storey building with 76 rooms. Subdivision of the land near Walmart has already occurred with the closing date for the land sale within the next few days. Patrick Schmidt (Huu-ay-aht Group of Businesses) is hoping the development permit and building permit will be issued in the next few months.
Comox: Design-Build RFP for $18 million facility at 19 Wing
Defence Construction Canada is requesting Proposals from Design-Build Teams to design and construct the new Simulator Facility to be located at Canadian Forces Base 19 Wing Comox, following a modified design-build approach. The Rough Order Magnitude Construction Cost Estimate for this Project is $18.2 million. The tender closes March 5.
Courtenay: Developers meeting scheduled for February 5
The City is updating Form and Character Development Permit Areas (DPA) found in the OCP and Zoning bylaws to implement the Small-Scale Multi-Unit House (SSMUH) legislation. Additionally, there will be information on a few other special projects that the Planning Division is working on. Details on the proposed SSMUH Development Permit Amendments project are located on the new project webpage. A copy of the draft DPA and survey will soon be posted at https://engagecomoxvalley.ca/ssmuh. The meeting will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at the Native Sons Hall downstairs Lodge Room (360 Cliffe Ave, Courtenay) from 10:00 AM to Noon.
