Union Bay: new Fire Hall proposed for 2024

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) has amended the adopted 2023-2027 Financial Plan for the Union Bay Fire Protection Local Service to reduce vehicle replacement in support for pre-construction studies and drawings for the Union Bay Fire Hall replacement project. The financial plan includes $3 million in 2024 for the construction of a new fire hall. Environmental and geotechnical studies are needed to ensure the CVRD is ready to build when the time comes. Last week, the CVRD allocated $2.295 million from the Community Works and Growing Community funds towards the project, with the hopes to start construction in 2024.

Campbell River:  variance requested for 24 unit townhouse development.

The City is reviewing a Phased Strata Declaration and Development Variance Permits application to reduce the setbacks in each of the two phases of this proposed 24 unit townhouse development. The 1.21 acre property has frontages on both Peterson and Old Petersen Road, and includes a single family home and several ancillary buildings, surrounded by RM-2 zoned properties on all sides. If approved, the development will proceed in two phases with demolishing the existing structures and building three fourplexes accessed from Peterson Road. The second phase with three additional fourplexes will be accessed from Old Petersen Road. The City recently approved a Major Development Permit application for this project.

Powell River:  141 apartment buildings under construction, developer is seeking specified trades.

Construction is underway on Uptown, with ground breaking starting a month ago. Form work started last week. Two building permits with a combined value of $17 million were issued last year. The development will include 141 rental units, including micro-units (312 sq. ft.), studios (571 sq. ft), one-bedroom (571 to 719 sq. t), and two-bedroom suites (846 to 1190 sq. ft.). As proposed, the project will include 10 affordable housing units for a 10 year period. The company is seeking trades to work on cladding, stucco, vinyl decks, framing, drywall, insulation and millwork. Contact the applicant, Brett Giese, for more information..
