Ucluelet: Approvals proceeding for 212 residential units on a 24.8 acre property.

District of Ucluelet has adopted a Zoning Amendment Bylaw to facilitate the proposed housing development on the property at 221 Minato Road. Minato Developments plans for the 24.8 acre site include attainable rental, market rental modular units, single family detached, duplex and townhomes. The project would be constructed in phases over 10 years. The total housing proposal includes: 98 rental units, 27 attainable family homes, 40 apartments, 47 larger family waterfront homes with nightly rentals, and one common amenity space. Minato Developments has plans to be actively under construction in 2023 once all permits are in place.

Tofino: Proposed renovation to the Municipal Hall may begin in February.

District Staff is seeking early budget approval for a renovation to the Municipal Hall. The renovation would see the creation of additional workspaces as well as heating, ventilation and accessibility improvements to the building, and the relocation of Council meetings to the Clayoquot Sound Community Theatre space. The total project cost is $434,000, including current quotes for $377,000 plus a 15% contingency fund. If approved, the project would see the creation of six office spaces, a small meeting room, an accessible washroom and access ramp, sound proofing, and heat pump. Staff have obtained contractor quotes for the scope of work and would manage the project directly. Should Council support early budget approval at this week’s meeting, the work is anticipated to begin as early as February and take approximately four months.

Campbell River:  Adult Care Society is proposing a 4 storey building for rentals and senior programs.

Campbell River’s Adult Care Society is proposing a 4 storey building on a vacant lot on Cedar Street and will provide an update to Council at this week’s Council Meeting. Architectural and Engineering Design is complete and the society is currently fundraising for the project. The building is proposed to include rental suites to support long term viability and host programming for Seniors.
