Campbell River: July 6 public hearing for Development Permit Areas Steep Slopes

Campbell River Council is hosting a public hearing on July 6 for proposed amendments to the Official Community Plan Development Permit Area for Hazard Conditions (Steep Slopes).  A detailed report is available online. The report summarizes engagements, discusses key themes heard, and presents a table of revisions to the DPA guideline and exemptions content. Cumberland: Tenders released for trade contractors for the Child Care Centre

Tenders have been released for trade contractors for the Cumberland Child Care Centre. Heatherbrae Builders Co. Ltd. is requesting trade contractors to submit tenders for their trade work. The Comox Valley School District received a $2.95 million grant for 75 new childcare spaces to be built as the Cumberland Childcare Centre on the site owned by SD71 and shared with Cumberland Community Elementary School. Construction is expected to start this summer with completion by the 2023/2024 school year. The bid call is for the following trades: Sitework, Doors, Frames, & Hardware, Landscape, Rollshutters, Chainlink Fencing, Curtain Wall, Curbs & Asphalt, Drywall & Insulation, Concrete FRP, Ceramic Tile, Misc. Steel, Flooring, Wood Framing, Painting, Architectural Millwork, Specialties, Finish Carpentry, Mechanical, Roofing, Electrical and Cladding.

Courtenay: A new 4.6 hectare public park and trails proposed close to downtown

The plan for Courtenay’s new 4.6 hectare McPhee Meadows Park near Downtown Courtenay proposes to include $3.2 million in trails, washrooms, and parking. McPhee Meadows is located on the south bank of the Puntledge River in West Courtenay starting at 2nd Street and Fitgerald, extending west along the river, and connecting to the Island Corridor Foundation Land to the Rotary Trail at Menzies Avenue and 5th Street. A request for proposal for detailed design is expected to be released and awarded before the end of this year. Procurement for a contractor is expected in the spring of 2023, with award dependent on budget approval and funding. If the funding is successful, construction could start late summer 2023. If the grant funding decision is unsuccessful, Staff will consider executing the park improvements in three phases, subject to available budget funding. An open house is scheduled for July 15.
