Port Alberni:  $2.5 million in grant funding received for the Quays Pathway project.

The City of Port Alberni has received $2.5 million in grant funding for a pathway that will connect Harbour Quay and Victoria Quay. Port Alberni city council gave approval to PWL Partnership Landscape Architects Inc. to begin detailed design work for two sections of the Connect the Quays pathway, at a cost of $90,000. The first segment is 1,100 metres of path between Harbour Quay and Tyee Landing, including the Somass Lands. The second segment will be 850 metres of path from Gertrude Street through Roger Creek Park to the bridge across Roger Creek. The city hopes to start construction later this year.

Tofino: Development Permit approved for a 10-unit ocean front resort condominium.

The District of Tofino approved the issue of the Development Permit for this 10-unit resort condominium. The ocean front project includes 3 stories built at the end of Campbell Street. As part of the development, the applicant is also seeking permission for beach and driveway access upon public lands adjacent to the subject property. Staff will draft a development agreement for further Council consideration.

Campbell River: Development Permit approved for 47 new strata homes.

A development permit has been approved for 47 new strata homes, mostly built as 2-storey units with a mix of 22 duplexes and 3 single units. A building permit is in the process of being submitted for Phase 1 for 12 units ranging in size from 1,350 to 2,000 sq. ft. This development will include a covered area for year round gatherings, a play park and a dedicated space for a community garden. Site servicing is expected to be underway by June 2022.
