Mandatory masks in workplaces in Around Town

Your Weekly Construction Briefing

On November 19, the provincial health officer announced new orders requiring everyone in all indoor public and retail settings and workplaces to wear a mask.

The Province of British Columbia has enacted a mandatory mask mandate for workplaces as part of the COVID-19 pandemic response, including construction sites.

While the requirement doesn’t directly reference construction sites, it does state that the order includes all shared work areas and any area where physical distancing cannot be maintained and where workers are not separated by a barrier.

Employers are expected to review and redouble their efforts on their COVID-19 Safety Plan and remind employees to stay home if they have symptoms. Employers must also make every effort to provide work from home options.

The restrictions do not include formal meetings that can operate with COVID-19 safety protocols, such as City Council and other business meetings. Real estate rental and sale viewings continue to be restricted to six people, if space allows.
