North Island Hospitals Project

The $600 million North Island Hospitals Project (NIHP) is on track for completion in late 2017, says NIHP Chief Project Officer Tom Sparrow. The three proponents seeking to design, build, finance, and maintain the new hospitals in the Comox Valley and in Campbell River submitted their technical proposals for evaluation last October. A preferred proponent is expected to be announced in the spring. Ground-breaking ceremonies are now anticipated at the Comox Valley and Campbell River sites this summer.

The next round of community information meetings for the NIHP take place as follows:

Comox Valley
Tuesday, February 25
7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Stan Hagen Theatre, North Island College
2300 Ryan Road, Courtenay

Campbell River
Thursday, February 27
7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Changing Gallery, Museum at Campbell River
470 Island Highway, Campbell River

As at past community information meetings, Chief Project Officer Tom Sparrow will start with a presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session related to the procurement, design, and construction of the $600 million project that includes a $334 million 153-bed hospital in Courtenay, near the corner of Lerwick and Ryan Roads, and a $266 million 95-bed hospital on the existing Campbell River Hospital site.
