Campbell River seeking input regarding 3.5 acre public waterfront property

Campbell River’s Waterfront Task has presented a conceptual plan that reflects community ideas for the 3.5-acre property – and residents are invited to review the concept and participate in a survey by the end of the month. The conceptual plan maintains the 3.5-acre site as public property. The concept incorporates many uses including a mixed-use building, which would house a range of public services and amenities, such as an aquarium, exhibition areas, a market for local small-scale products, a world-class Salmon Centre of Excellence, a 220-seat venue for cultural events and conferences. The overall cost for the project is estimated at up to $25 million.

The K’ómoks First Nation and City of Courtenay reach agreement regarding the former Field’s sawmill site in Courtenay

The Comox Valley Project Watershed Society and K’ómoks First Nation have announced an agreement to purchase the Field’s Sawmill Site (Kus-kus-sum). The partners have accepted the offer to purchase the property from Interfor, while both the K’ómoks First Nation and City of Courtenay have agreed to take on the role as landowners, once the acquisition is complete. The partners are in the process of fundraising to complete the purchase and restoration work. The total project cost is estimated at $6 million.

The construction of the leachate treatment facility is on schedule for completion in September 2017 and commissioning is expected in early October. The facility is located on Bevan Road in Cumberland. The total leachate treatment project cost is estimated to be $8,545,000.
