Development Permit Application for Proposed Canadian Tire Goes to Council September 8

A development permit application for the proposed Canadian Tire at the Driftwood Mall will proceed to council on September 8. The proposed development is to convert the vacant Target store into a Canadian Tire store with a new 10 bay Auto Service centre at the back of the store and a new outdoor covered garden centre at the front of the store. The store’s footprint would expand substantially from the existing Target store.

City of Courtenay Selects Project Partners for Braidwood Supportive Housing Project

The City of Courtenay will proceed with the Braidwood Supportive Housing Project, and has selected M’akola Group of Societies and Wachiay Friendship Centre as the joint project sponsors for a five-year term. The M’akola Group of Societies and Wachiay Friendship Centre will be responsible for the planning, construction, and operation of the housing once it is complete.

Strathcona Regional District Received Four Bids for Sewer Extension Project

The Strathcona Regional District has received four bids for the Quathiaski Cove Sanitary Sewer Collection System Extension, ranging in value from $934,125 to $1,158,280. The bidders are J.R. Edgett Excavating Ltd., IWC Excavation Ltd., Upland Contracting Ltd., and J. Cote and Son Excavating Ltd. Construction is anticipated to start by late August, and be completed before the end of November.
