Courtenay’s Official Community Plan Public Hearing In Around Town

June 16, 2022

Your Weekly Construction Briefing

Courtenay City Council is requesting feedback on Courtenay’s Official Community Plan Bylaw and several Zoning Amendment Bylaws. Those additional Bylaws consist of several changes including allowing secondary suites in 15 zones and adding bike parking and reducing vehicular parking for multi residential.

A public hearing on the City of Courtenay’s updated Official Community Plan is scheduled for June 20, 2022.

A public hearing is scheduled for June 20, 2022 at 4 pm at the Comox Valley Regional District’s Civic Room at 770 Harmston Ave.

There are numerous OCP updates including changes to future growth areas, new Energy Step Code requirements, and increases to community amenity contributions. The eventual content and adoption of the changes remain subject to the public hearing and Council may consider changes at third reading in response to the input received. If those changes affect land uses, development density or tenure, a second public hearing may need to be held.

As required under provincial legislation, the OCP includes: targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; affordable housing policies; and areas of potential development considering the most recent housing needs report (2020 Comox Valley Housing Needs Assessment).

Both virtual and in-person attendance will be possible. Written comments may also be submitted in advance. For more information visit www.courtenay.ca/publichearings and courtenay.ca/ocpupdate
