City of Courtenay and Maple Pool Campsite Reach Agreement
The City of Courtenay released a statement today stating that the city and the owners and residents of Maple Pool have come to mutually agreeable terms in the claim and counterclaim relating to the Maple Pool campground.
The city stated that terms of the settlement are confidential, but that the owners of Maple Pool have entered a covenant restricting the use of up to 53 sites at the campsite exclusively for affordable housing. The sites are at the highest elevations on the property, and away from the most direct path of the river in the event of a flood. The owners and residents are also providing liability waivers for flood hazards and costs.
The settlement allows Maple Pool to operate 23 lawfully non-conforming seasonal and short term campsites and market rates. In addition,a 30 metre area will be protected from development for environmental and fish protection.
