BC Hydro has issued a Request for Tenders for the Civil, Electrical and P&C Construction Contract for the new Kokish Terminal substation, which is located approximately 15 kilometres east of Port McNeill, adjacent to the existing privately owned Beaver Cove Substation. A site meeting will be held at the site location on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 11:00 am.

The District of Ucluelet has awarded the tender for Bay St Water Treatment Facility Upgrades to Brunnell Construction Limited in the amount of $865,390. The work includes the supply of materials, labour, and equipment to retrofit the existing Bay Street Pump Station and install new UV disinfection equipment.

The Village of Port Alice intends to construct a small twenty-boat marina to be called the Rumble Beach Marina. The Village has approved a pre-cast concrete float design, as designed by Herold Engineering, and requires proposals from qualified contractors to supply the floats and related hardware.

Vancouver Island Real Estate Board Reports on March Sales Activity

Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) sales summary data for March released by the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board (VIREB) shows housing sales activity across Vancouver Island was down six percent compared to last year, while average sale prices remained virtually unchanged.

The average price of a single family home sold within the VIREB region in March was $319,912 which is nearly identical to the March 2012 average price of $319,661. The number of housing units reported sold last month were down slightly compared to a year ago. In March 2012 there were 298 single family homes sold, in comparison 281 unit sales were recorded in March 2013.

“We’ve experienced increased levels of month over month activity through the first quarter of 2013 which should translate into increased unit sales as we move into the Spring,” explained VIREB President Gary Gray.
