Editor’s Note

BC Hydro is starting site preparation work for the $960 million John Hart Generating Station Replacement Project. The first of the work will begin with tree removals for the new parking lot off Woodstave Road, just off Brewster Lake Road near Highway 28. BC Hydro will be building an access road, 80-spot parking lot and trail to provide public access into the Elk Falls Provincial Park.

Courtenay council has approved a development permit for the two four-storey buildings proposed to be constructed on land at Mission Road, between Queneesh Elementary School and the Fortis BC building. Construction is expected to begin later in the year, once the building permit has been finalized.

We have nine new tenders in this week’s issue, from different areas. We have the details in our tender section. Some of the new tenders include:

  • The City of Campbell River is requesting proposals from qualified companies to provide an environmental monitoring consulting service
  • Defence Construction Canada is seeking a Standing Offer Agreement to replace furnaces at 19 Wing CFB Comox.
  • The Comox Valley Regional District is seeking quotations from qualified individuals or firms for the provision of pre-construction coordinator services for the Hornby Island fire hall construction project.

 

Upper Island Safety Conference & Trade Show on May 27 – 28, 2013

The Strathcona Regional District is hosting the Upper Island Safety Conference & Trade Show on May 27 – 28, 2013 at the Campbell River Community Centre.

This conference in designed for: safety committee members, facility supervisors and managers; safety officers and professionals; safety business owners and sales reps; anyone employed in the business of safety; anyone who is responsible for safety at work. Attend for the opportunity to: network with other delegates, presenters and experts; learn about the latest safety research, trends, regulations and issues; and get motivated to implement change at your workplace.

The conference will feature two keynote addresses and 18 educational sessions to choose from. The conference meets the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee Training Requirements under the Worksafe BC Legislation, and delegates are eligible for 1.2 EOCP Professional Designation Maintenance Points and BCRSP has awarded the conference 1.0 CMPs.
