According to the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board’s (VIREB) January Statistics, the mortgage stress test is taking a toll on housing sales throughout the province with sales of single-family homes from Duncan to Port Hardy dropping by 28 per cent from one year ago.

The Village of Cumberland has experienced significant growth in recent years, with 1300 Cumberland residents having moved to the community between 2011 and 2016. The Official Community Plan indicates that known development could bring more than 4,000 new housing units.

Around Town: Public feedback sought on upgrades to Comox and Courtenay sewer service

Goals and objectives have been set for the regional district’s sewer service liquid waste management plan (LWMP) for Comox and Courtenay. Two information sessions will be held at the end of January to update the public, introduce the options and collect preliminary comments. The public is invited to come to an open house to review the information and chat with the project team.

The Numbers Are In…

Kutyn Property Appraisals has published its sales summary for 2018 and show sales across all sectors in Campbell River and Courtenay were similar.

For Comox Valley and Campbell River, the trends for the Zone Totals for 2018 (sales across all market sectors) are remarkably similar. For the Comox Valley, the total sales of $783 Million was down 2% from last year, but reflecting a 10% increase in the average price. The Campbell River market was off 6% to $346 Million, with a 17% increase in the average price. For the month of December alone, sales in the Comox Valley were off 38% to $31 Million, while sales in Campbell River were off 31% to $13 Million.
