BC New Home Construction Increases in Around Town

Registered new homes data are a leading indicator of housing and economic activity in British Columbia. The publication BC’s New Homes Register Report provides information on registered new homes by building type, size and location.

The August 2021 BC New Homes Report is showing strong increases in new housing construction around the province.

In the first eight months of 2021, 36,056 new homes were registered in BC including 8,754 single-detached units and 27,302 multi-units.

So far in 2021 home registrations are up 73.2% from 2020. Registrations for multi-units increased by 84.1% and 46.3% for single-detached homes. 8,211 purpose-built rental units were registered in BC compared with the same period in 2020 the number of registered rental units increased by 29.2%.

In total, August saw 5,003 new homes were registered in BC; a 93.3% increase compared with August 202. There were also more multi-unit homes than single detached homes in several communities around he province, including Parksville, Nanaimo and Campbell River.

New home construction will continue to increase into 2022 as pent-up demand for housing of all kinds is driving unprecedented activity.
