Around Town: Comox Valley Regional District – Building permit fees to increase

November 23, 2017

On November 8, the Comox Valley Regional District Board approved an increase in building permit fees for construction in the Comox Valley electoral areas. Base fees have been raised by $25 along with an adjustment of the variable fees.

The Comox Valley Regional District has approved an increase in building permit fees for construction in
the Comox Valley electoral areas.

Where the former building permit fee was $50 plus 0.65 per cent of the estimated construction value, the new fee is $75 plus 0.75 per cent of the estimated construction value. This represents the first fee review since 2003.

A fee increase was required in order to ensure that fees reflect the average estimated cost of processing and to provide for cost recovery. The new fees are also consistent with fees charged in the City of Courtenay, the Town of Comox and the Village of Cumberland, which are member municipalities of the Comox Valley Regional District.
