NIC’s Campbell River campus is receiving 58,706 square feet in new shops, classrooms and support services. Timberline and NIC will also see 43,830 square feet of renovations as part of the campus consolidation project.

Construction continues on the $13.5 million Campbell River Trades Facility Replacement and Campus Consolidation Project

Island West Coast Developments has been issued a building permit for $2 million for construction of the new trades facility at the North Island College (NIC) Campbell River Campus which is part of the Campbell River Trades Facility Replacement and Campus Consolidation Project. NIC received funding in the amount of $13.5 million to replace the aging Vigar Vocational Centre, and consolidate programs to the Campbell River Heritage Lands Education Centre campus earlier this year.

Phase II tender for Powell River Airport expected to be issued in late November

Design continues for Phase II of the Powell River Airport runway improvement project, and it is expected a tender for the project will be issued in late November. These improvements will allow Pacific Coastal to bring its SAAB aircraft back into service for Powell River.

Construction is underway for a planned spill response base in Port Alberni

Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) has started construction work on their planned spill response base in Port Alberni, one of a number of new bases constructed on Vancouver Island. The expansion will double WCMRC’s capacity to respond to spills and cut mandated response times in half in South Coast waters. Site preparation is underway at both the the port authority’s terminal yard and at the Water Street Wharf location.
