Around Town: Village of Cumberland 2016 Strategic Priorities

Cumberland Council has developed its proposed 2016 strategic priorities and is now seeking community input. The proposed priorities will be included for discussion at the Village Hall (located at 2673 Dunsmuir Avenue) meeting scheduled for Monday, April 4 at 7 pm.

Highlights of the proposed 2016 strategic priorities include:

  • purchase land and construct a new fire hall
  • develop a facility replacement and upgrade plan
  • create a road and utility rehabilitation plan
  • developing an alley enhancement and maintenance strategy
  • implement the Cumberland Recreation Renovation Study
  • support tourism through parks and recreation, heritage, and environmental conservation
  • reduce corporate greenhouse gas emissions
  • investigate water conservation and grey water reuse programs
  • explore eco-asset management
  • examine all solid waste management options, including alternative energy and integrated resource recovery
  • develop a model of providing economic development services
  • develop an affordable housing action plan
  • include social procurement in an updated purchasing policy

After public feedback, the document will be brought forward at a Council meeting to consider its adoption. The document will be used to help develop Council’s 2016 five year budget.
