Around Town: CVRD updating development cost charges for water and sewer systems

Developers and land use consultants are invited to an information session about proposed bylaw changes for changes to the DCC’s. for water and sewer systems. Increases are proposed in most sectors.

The Comox Valley Regional District is proposed changes to water and sewer system development cost charges, and will hold a public information session Thursday May 25, 2017.

Proposed rates for sewer include: Single Family: $6,941 up from $5,980, Multi Family: $5,687/unit up from $4,984/unit. Congregate Care Facility: $3,062/unit up from $2,492/unit. Industrial/Public Utility: $126,882/ha up from $59,804/ha. Decreases are proposed for the commercial and institutional sectors.

Proposed rates for the water system include: Single Family: $3,911 up from, $3,702. Multi Family: $3,199/unit up from, $3,086/unit. Congregate Care Facility: $1,722/unit up from $1,543/unit. Industrial/Public Utility: $71,372/ha up from $37,027/ha. Commercial: $13.80/m2 up from $10.80/m2. Institutional $15.10/m2 up from $10.80/m2.

The CVRD board will vote on the proposed changes in June, 2017, with a final bylaw update and implementation expected in the Fall of 2017. In-stream developments which pay DCCs at subdivision and have approval to proceed prior to that date are charged at the old rate.
